For September’s OLW assignment I wrote a letter to myself. I don’t know if it is coincidence but I feel like OLWs prompts are secretly guiding my though my mental health healing journey. I don’ t like writing letters to myself of giving myself pep talks. I even dislike writing letters to my 14 year old self (for example) but I believe that I am just ashamed of the vulnerability that is exposed while talking to oneself.
What I loved
Writing letters to ourselves is a humbling practice full of hope. It let us see our own reality from another perspective, as if we were talking to a friend. They say that we shouldn’t say to ourselves things that we wouldn’t say to someone we appreciate and love, hence it is also a self love practice.
What I didn’t like
Honestly, there was nothing to dislike about this assignment. It was in fact very appropriate for what I am going though right now and I’m grateful for that.
I create my pages on my iPad using the Affinity Photo app which have functionalities similar to Photoshop. The handwritten text is added using Procreate (also an iPad app) which I love love love!
